Our External Quality Assurer, John Oakley will retire from ABBE at the end of this academic year.

John has worked as an External Quality Assurer for ABBE almost since inception and has made a massive contribution to the quality of our qualifications and to the service within our centres.

We will miss John’s support and his bright and helpful attitude and wish him the very best in his future career.

Sava Careers Fair

On the 24th March 2022, Sava, an ABBE approved centre, are holding the biggest careers fair in the residential surveying industry. The event has grown year on year and now includes over 40 exhibitions, over 300 attendees and presentations from leading employers.

Ending of legal restrictions in England

From 24 February, the UK government has ended any remaining legal coronavirus restrictions in England. This includes removal of the requirement to self-isolate.

There are different timescales for the removal of restrictions in Scotland and Wales.

New Building Safety Regulator

On 1st August 2021 HSE became a new statutory consultee for planning applications that include high-rise residential buildings. This service is known as planning gateway one and will become part of the Building Safety Regulator once it is established.

The Health and Safety Executive is at the centre of the plans to establish a new Building Safety Regulator that will be responsible for implementing and enforcing a more stringent regulatory regime for Higher Risk Buildings, as well as providing wider and stronger oversight of safety and performance across all buildings.

Ensure your scaffolding is stable and safe

WorldSkills UK announces winners of equity, diversity and inclusion awards

People and organisations who champion diversity within business and technical education have been honoured as part of the third WorldSkills UK equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) heroes awards.

The awards were held during a virtual ceremony on Thursday in partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and NCFE.

Winners included an electronics engineer who spent lockdown designing science packs for school children and a national programme to get non-English speakers to sign up for college courses.

Skills bill clears the commons

The skills and post-16 education bill has now passed through the House of Commons following a third reading. The bill is now in the House of Lords undergoing a process known as ‘ping pong’ before it achieves royal assent.
