The HSE (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.
The purpose of the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide appropriate care and manage life-threatening conditions, minor illnesses and injuries.
The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work will provide learners with the skills necessary to manage a patient that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, bleeding, is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services. This qualification is designed to provide the learner with the necessary skills to give effective basic life support, diagnose and treat minor and manage major injuries or illness, keeping the patient alive until the emergency services arrive. This will enable the holder of this qualification to deal competently and confidently as a first aid trained member of staff in the workplace.
