ABBEs Fees

In the light of COVID we will not be increasing our fees again this year (1 August 2021 – 31 July 2022).  We recognise that the last 12 months has been very difficult of all concerned and so want to help with recovery by not increasing our fees and by still offering our high level of customer service.

Administrative Officer – Sam Howard

We would like to welcome Sam Howard to our Team.   Some of you may have already met Sam but I’m sure you will all get to know him over the next few months.  You can email Sam on abbeenquiries@bcu.ac.uk

ESFA and Adult Skills Funding Alert

We have been made aware, via the ESFA, that there is a delay in publishing the updated funding for 2021-2022. They are still in the process of finalising the Level 2 and 3 Legal Entitlement offer. This is why centres will notice that the Adult Skills qualifications last date for new start (LDNS) eligibility dates have not yet been rolled over to next year.

Please keep monitoring the Learning Aims website to check for updates. The ESFA have stated that where a qualification has been extended in other offers already, such as loans, it is likely they will be extended for Legal Entitlement. The delay is out of the ESFA’s hands, however they are hoping to have these all published by early July.

Please keep referring to the new Learning Aim website here: Find a learning aim (fasst.org.uk)  Search either the qualification title or you can locate all our qualifications by selecting Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE).

Remote Invigilation

We are delighted to offer a new way to support your learners who need to complete an online test as part of their qualification or end-point assessment.

In collaboration with OnVue, our remote invigilation service is now available for the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Property Advice and Practice qualification
  • Level 6 Diploma in Residential Surveying qualification
  • Level 6 Diploma in Residential Valuation qualification
  • Level 6 Award in External Wall System Assessment qualification
  • Broadcast Engineer Integrated Apprenticeship end-point assessment

These examinations can take place at a time and venue that suits your learners, this enables learners to fit the tests around their work and life commitments.

Not only that, our remote invigilation service also reduces the overhead costs and time to administer tests on-site, as well as reducing pressure on computer-based testing.

Registering Learners

Please note: It is very important to register a learner using their full name, the one which appears on their ID e.g. Passport, Driving Licence etc. as this will ensure that their certificate is printed with the correct name.

This is even more important when using Pearson Vue centres or OnVue remote invigilation as their ID will be checked against the name they have registered under.  If their ID and registered name do not match this will cause problems and stop them from registering for their examination.

Construction Industry – fraud alert

ABBE has received intelligence that centres may be approached by individual facilitators allegedly offering to bring in large numbers of learners and asking to use their exam facilities or to add theirs as additional assessment sites to register and certificate learners for the Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment.

The facilitators are said to offer large amounts of cash as an incentive, however after the qualification is completed the cash is not forthcoming and the training providers find that the requirements of the qualification (online exam) have been compromised.

The qualification in question is required to apply for a CSCS Green Labourer card. Construction scheme card fraud is a serious issue for the industry. ABBE will examine any circumstances that compromise or appear to compromise the integrity of our qualification.

If anyone has any information about unknown facilitators or fraudulent exams taking place, please contact ABBE on abbeenquiries@bcu.ac.uk

Colleges ‘unlikely’ to return to pre-pandemic teaching

Just 6 per cent of global vocational education providers will reinstate pure face-to-face teaching, finds new research

A return to pre-pandemic teaching and learning in colleges around the world is unlikely, says the Association of Colleges.

A new report, entitled How are vocational institutions innovating, evolving and changing as result of Covid-19? and published by the British Council and the Association of Colleges, says just 6 per cent of global technical and vocational education institutions will maintain pure face-to-face teaching delivery.

It also says that nine in 10 have had to change their institutional policies since the onset of Covid-19, and just under half have made changes to their assessment methods for the future.
